Consultation - Future Directions for the NRSCH

Shaping the direction of community housing regulation

The consultation on the Future Directions of the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH) closed on 21 April 2026.

The consultation invited stakeholders to share perspectives on how the NRSCH is operating and how it could continue to support a strong, responsive, and effective community housing sector into the future.

The NRSCH National Office received a range of written submissions and survey responses.  Stakeholder feedback covered a broad range of issues, including the strengths of the current system, areas for improvement, and considerations for a future‑ready regulatory framework.

The National Office is currently analysing submissions and survey responses. A Summary Report is being prepared and will be published shortly. The report will summarise key themes raised through the consultation and outline matters identified for further consideration.

Importantly, the report will be shared with Registrars and the Community Housing Modernisation Working Group to support discussions and advice on potential modernisation options. The Community Housing Modernisation Working Group's role is to facilitate Commonwealth, state and territory government advice and collaboration on potential policy and regulatory reforms for the community housing sector, including (but not limited to) the NRSCH.

We thank all stakeholders who took the time to contribute their views and insights.
